I would particularly like to use this opportunity to stress my background in financial planning and asset management in light of many policies and programs enacted in the past 4 years. While many of these programs were rushed through the General Assembly to help vulnerable incumbents on the campaign trail, programs like TTCA and Kirwan face the real risk of becoming insolvent in the coming years. As a delegate, my goal is to create better government—not better politicians. As such, I will advocate for a comprehensive review of high-dollar state programs that are at risk for becoming insolvent in addition to pushing for measures that will put these programs on a pathway of financial sustainability.
Ellicott City residents are increasingly becoming concerned with the direction of the Maryland General Assembly. In the past 4 years, our leaders in Annapolis have prioritized party and wealthy donors over every day working people in addition to engaging in a toxic brand of politics. We have a chance to change things for the better. As a state delegate, I will prioritize three core issues: public safety, jobs/economy, and the financial health of our public schools. With respect to public safety, I will fight hard to advance common sense crime proposals that hold violent criminals accountable, support our women and men in uniform, and help alleviate the concerns of residents that their schools and streets are increasingly becoming unsafe. I will also prioritize updating our archaic system of taxation, which is too unfair and burdensome for retirees and working families. We need to considerably reduce our state’s retirement taxes, income taxes on working families, and expand tax incentives for small—particularly minority-owned—businesses. Lastly, I share the concerns of Ellicott City residents regarding the future of our schools. While the Blueprint for Maryland's Future funds our public schools in the short run, it offers limited details as to what happens after its 5 years of funding. As delegate, I hope to advance legislation for sustainable, long-term funding for our public schools, particularly for school infrastructure.
I have held elected office previously as a legislator where we worked as a team to serve our constituents and I worked in service without regard to political party or political platform. I believe and know through experience that good government is found in the middle ground and we must unite as legislators who serve only one purpose which is to provide exceptional government services to the people who elected us.
My very first job was working at McDonalds during high school. I worked there all through high school.
Yes, of course. Citizens are hungry for the middle ground in our state government. Good government is found in the middle and is achieved through negotiation and compromise.
