To find out who I am, check out my Facebook page (Struebing in Standish).
- I’m bringing three years of practical experience from serving on the town budget committee, giving me a strong understanding of local finances and government operations.
- I am dedicated to encouraging all residents, especially younger generations, to participate in local government and make their voices heard.
- I am organized, thoughtful, and committed to making decisions that reflect the community’s best interests while managing resources wisely and transparently.
I want to promote community engagement and encouraging younger residents to get involved before they find themselves waist deep and wondering how they got there and how to fix it. Start when you’re younger to help shape the future, not correct it.
Because it is small, local, and immediate to the community, Town Council should understand what the Standish community needs are. It is the link between residents and higher levels of government.
I look up to both scientists and students. Scientists inspire me because they work hard to understand how things work and to make the world better. They spend years doing research, solving problems, and trying new ideas; even when it’s difficult and society doesn’t understand why.
I also admire students because they are learning and trying to improve themselves. It takes a lot of courage to ask questions, make mistakes, and keep going. Students show that it’s okay not to know everything, as long as you’re willing to learn.
I hope to follow their example by staying curious, working hard, and always being open to learning something new. I would recommend Twelve Angry Men, The West Wing, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I identify with the messaging and thought involved in decision making of the main characters in those.
A town council member should work to foster community engagement, encourage diverse participation, and support initiatives that improve the quality of life for all residents. They should possess empathy, integrity, honesty, and intelligence.
I believe my organizational skills and life experience are qualities make me well-suited to serve as a town council member. I have three years of experience on the town budget committee, which has given me a solid understanding of local government finances and decision-making. As a resident, I actively encourage others in the community to get involved, and I’m especially passionate about inspiring younger people to participate in municipal offices and committees. I’m committed to encouraging a more engaged and inclusive community where everyone’s voice can be heard.
We need to have a council made up of members that truly want to listen to the community before making decisions and should have the best interest of the community in mind, not just special interests. I believe that each member of the council should want to see members that represent every sector of the community, not just business owners. Ultimately, the role is about serving the community with integrity, fairness, and a commitment to its long-term well-being.
I would like to be remembered as someone that was always learning, always wondering about the world around me, and always inspiring others to do the same. I believe that when we stop learning, we stop growing.
The first historical event I remember is President Richard Nixon’s resignation due to the Watergate scandal. While I didn’t fully grasp the political details at the time, I vividly recall it dominating every family gathering. The adults were constantly engaged in intense, animated discussions, often raising their voices with a mix of frustration and concern. The atmosphere was heavy and stressful, which led all of us kids (all of us under 10) to steer clear of the adults. We’d stay outside together and pick someone to make soda and snack runs.
Looking back, those moments left a lasting impression. Today, I make a conscious effort to engage with difficult conversations calmly and constructively, especially when younger people are present. I’ve come to value openness and perspective over intensity, striving to create space for dialogue rather than shutting it down with tension.
My first official job was as an Administrative Assistant and Office Manager for a national insurance company with a local office in my hometown. While still in high school, I split my days between attending classes in the morning and working in the office in the afternoon. This role provided my first real-world experience with organization and project management, laying a strong foundation for my professional development.
I love to read; everything from graphic novels to peer-reviewed research papers. My favorite book is A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. I think most of us have encountered an Ignatius J. Reilly at some point in our lives. He is very intelligent, infuriating, and completely out of step with the world around him. I first picked up the book after finishing an Anne Rice novel set in New Orleans and wanted to stay in the New Orleans area. What drew me in was the way Ignatius is both highly educated and completely ridiculous. He’s bloated not just in size, but in ego and self-importance. Smart, arrogant, unpleasant, and more than a little delusional, he refuses to conform to social norms as he sees them which makes him funny and strangely relatable. I recommend.
Why think in terms of fictional characters when there are so many awesome scientists, mathematicians, and astrophysicists that I would love to be? I'm a fan of Newton, Einstein, Hubble, Turing, Euler, Rubin, Thorne, and so many more.
Ooof...I usually listen to news radio and when at home and work, I am usually doing something that requires my attention. I can't use music as a background noise because I find myself chair dancing which pulls me out of what I'm doing. I would say the last song that got stuck in my head was "Eye of the Tiger" because I heard someone whistling it.
I am an introvert by nature, a homebody. I am also someone that does what is needed to get the job done and sometimes those two traits are at odds with each other. I am constantly working to lessen my introvert side, by forcing myself to be more social. I still find myself being awkward in conversations, but I am a work in progress. Aren’t we all works in progress?
On top of the local ordinances that directly affect our daily lives, town council has the power to influence Standish’s partnerships with local organizations and businesses, which can lead to valuable community programs and economic growth. I believe more residents should understand how much influence the council has and how their involvement can shape these important decisions.
Yes, I do believe it’s beneficial for someone in a Town Council to have prior experience in local government. Understanding how town operations, budgeting, and community processes work is important for making informed, responsible decisions. It’s far more effective to earn a seat through service and experience than to accept it without a clear understanding of the responsibilities involved. Experience builds the foundation for thoughtful leadership and genuine public trust.
I believe in strong listening skills, fact-based decision making, an understanding of local government, and the ability to communicate respectfully. We should be committed to serving the entire community.
Because it is small, local, and immediate to the community, Town Council should understand what the Standish community needs are. It is the link between residents and higher levels of government. As someone that is not afraid to ask questions, I am able to bridge gaps as they arise between the community, municipal offices, and higher government offices.
What is a Jedi's favorite dessert? Obi-Wan Cannoli.....LOL
I have not published endorsements for the Town Council election. There are many residents that have liked and shared posts as well as many others that are volunteering to talk to neighbors that I can't reach due to time constraints. If you see them out there, remember that they are part of the same community and working toward a strong, sustainable Standish.
Municipal governments should operate with full transparency and accountability. The community is a vital resource that must be actively engaged in decisions that affect it. When transparency is deliberately limited, it undermines public trust and raises serious concerns about the integrity of those in leadership.
