2016

Wellman's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Creating Jobs:

  • Lisa has decades of experience creating jobs. She began her career as a public school teacher but changed course into the business world, including a stint as Vice President of Apple Computer. She is currently Managing Director for nsquared solutions, a software development company. She knows the importance of supporting local small business and our high-tech economy. We need that experience in job creation in Olympia.
  • Investments in infrastructure are fundamental to economic growht in our state. We can't let these vital systems fail to keep pace with the rapid growth in our region. Lisa will fight for job-creating investments in roads, bridges, and other essential infrastructure to strengthen our economy for years to come.

Championing Our Public Schools:

  • Lisa understands that public education is our state's top priority and that great schools lead to an economy that works for all of us.

Fully Funding Education

  • Our Legislature is failing to fulfill its constitutional obligation to our state's 1.1 million public school students.
  • Next year, funding for Bellevue schools will be cut by more than $12 million, Issaquah schools by $10 million, Renton schools by $9 million, and Mercer Island schools by $3 million. This shouldn't be happening - our kids deserve better. As your next State Senator, she'll put students first and ensure every child can get a great education.

Higher Education Opportunities

  • While the legislature was cutting millions of dollars from our State's higher education system, Lisa was volunteering as a mentor for University of Washington business students. As our State Senator, Lisa will work to expand technical and career training programs so talented, local students are prepared for the 21st century in high-demand field like nursing and techology.

Keeping Our Schools Safe

  • Even with the lead crisis in local schools, and the e-coli outbreak on Mercer Island, the Legislature refuses to require testing of the drinking water in public schools to keep our kids safe. As part of fully funding our schools, Lisa will work to ensure that the schools our children attend are safe.

Improving Transportation:

  • The legislature made some progress with the last transportation package but we have a long way to go to get this region moving. Lisa will work with the business community, stakeholders, and local commuters to ensure a process that avoids partisan bickering and gets new projects moving that include road construction, buses, light rail, carpools, commute trip reduction, biking, and walking.[5]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Washington

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
