- Promote and Strengthen Community College Education: Community colleges are an essential part of our higher education system, providing accessible and affordable education to diverse students. I will promote community colleges as not only a viable option for higher education in Silicon Valley but sometimes the best one. This includes advocating for increased funding and resources to enhance the quality of education and expand course offerings to under-resourced locations, such as East San Jose. Investing in community colleges means investing in the future of Silicon Valley.
- Expand Career Pathway Opportunities: Creating more career pathway opportunities for community college students is vital. I will forge strong partnerships with local unions, industries, and employers in order to develop programs that align with the job market demands. This involves offering internships, apprenticeships, and hands-on training to equip students with the practical skills they need to thrive in their chosen fields. I will work to bridge the gap between education and the workforce, ensuring students can smoothly transition into meaningful and well-paying careers after completing their education.
- Enhance Student Support and Academic Programs: Supporting students throughout their academic journey is crucial for their success. I will prioritize student support services, including counseling, tutoring, and academic support programs. Additionally, I will ensure that educational programs cater to students' diverse needs, such as initiatives for adult learners, career changers, and non-traditional students. By addressing barriers to education, we can improve retention rates and help students achieve their academic and career goals.
Access to High-Quality Education: My policy priorities are promoting community college education, creating more career opportunities for students, and enhancing the support and academic programs to transfer to a 4-year college. Through these efforts, I aim to support our students and ensure they have the tools and options necessary to succeed in the Bay Area's dynamic workforce.
