Candidate Connection

Lissa Lucas participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 9, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Lissa Lucas' responses follow below.[3]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Get the money out of politics. When lawmakers are working for lobbyists rather than The People, it prevents us from being able to address the real issues we face.

2) Use common sense. In this state legislators often trade small temporary benefits for huge long term costs. It's no wonder we're broke.
3) Prioritize infrastructure to create jobs: we all deserve basic services like running water, functioning sewer, good schools, maintained roads, and fast Internet.[4][5]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

We have to prioritize better. There are lots of things we can all agree on, but those things never get done because legislators are instead focused on the corporate wishlists in order to secure big donations and get re-elected. They should be focusing on voters, not lobbyists. They whine that they don't have $6 million for teachers and public employees at the same time they're trying to pass a $141 million business inventory tax cut, without even tying that cut to job creation. They're just listening to the corporate talking points, without listening to the people who actually live out here. They should knock more doors and get out and actually start talking to regular people.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[5]
