Litcy Kurisinkal is a mom, community leader, and naturalized U.S. citizen running for IL State Representative office.

She served as a National Voting Rights Lead for Harris-Walz Grassroot Coalition, mobilizing voters across key battleground states, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin. In 2020, at the peak of pandemic, she campaigned in rural counties in PA to help elect President Biden. In 2021, she campaigned for the Warnock-Ossoff campaign to ensure a Senate majority for democrats. She served as the Regional Organizing Director for the Democratic Party of Illinois, overseeing the collar counties.

Litcy has been a frontline advocate for civil rights & reproductive freedom. As the founder of Illinois Democratic Women of Cook County, she led the Women’s March in Chicago & the Handmaid’s protests boldly advocating for bodily autonomy and women’s rights. She fought for immigrant rights by regularly protesting in Broadview detention center despite being shot with teargas and pepper bullets during the ICE attacks. She serves as a board member of the Harvard Club of Chicago & the Indo-American Democratic Organization.

Locally, Litcy is a former Local School Council Chair & parent representative who helped organize one of the first community COVID vaccination drives during the pandemic. She volunteers as a GED tutor in Cook County Jail. As a Harvard Public Policy graduate who has worked with nonprofits, she is experienced in legislative advocacy.
  • Fair school funding by reducing over-reliance on local property-taxes.

Illinois relies too heavily on local property taxes to fund schools. It creates educational disparities across the state. As the Local School Council Chair, I have witnessed how schools have limited resources and rely on private fundraising to run public schools thus paying twice for education. Not every school has access to parental fundraising and within the same neighborhood, we see academic disparities based on economic disparities. We have to invest in our children for the future of Illinois.

We need to fully fund education at the state level, reducing pressure on local property taxes and ensuring every child gets a fair shot.
  • Restore public safety through accountability & structured pathways to prevent repeat crimes Everyday nonviolent crimes, carjackings, bike theft, mail theft, garage break-ins, affect the neighborhood's sense of security. Prevention is public safety. We need to stop repeat offenses through accountability paired with structured pathways like skill development, job training, education to help youth/people in conflict to redefine their path. As a voluntary GED tutor in Cook County jail, I have witnessed how pathways bring positive impacts. It is not a free pass without consequences, but a preventive mechanism that ensures that people in conflict actually make a u-turn, which in turn will enhance public safety.
  • Bring back the dream of homeownership for young adults and families. District 12 is a renter-majority district. Renters deserve a real voice. Homeownership shouldn’t be a distant dream, especially for young people. Our young adults & families don’t deserve to be priced out of our district! We need to create systems to retain our younger generation to grow their roots in Illinois and retain their talent in our state.
1. Fix public education funding by reducing over-reliane on local property taxes

2. Restore Public Safety through accountability & structured patwhays to prevent repeat crimes
3. Bring back the home ownership dream to our young adults & families
