As a longtime resident of the Fountain Valley Community, former army wife, and former educator, I have been an advocate for the people here since day one.
  • I will be a voice for our military and working families.
  • Securing safety to our educators and supporting our staff and students.
  • Protecting our health and rights.
I am personally passionate about inclusivity and equity in our legislature. We cannot create legislation that excludes certain groups nor small businesses from being successful in our state.

True small businesses owned by one person or a family with only a few employees are often not included in relief packages and employee health benefits. As a former small business owner, I understand the struggles that small businesses face. We may have our successes, but we must have a safety net for failures.
Yes, "Iron Jawed Angel" highlights the story of Alice Paul and her struggle to get the 19th Amendment passed. The most poignant scene is when Ida B. Wells is asked to step aside (although she does not and continues fighting). We cannot ask people or groups of people to wait. We have to make our legislation inclusive.
I am skilled at organizing with large groups of people to work together for a common goal.
One of the first historical events I remember is not one that is necessarily significant to the country, but one that has served as a reflection point in my life.

While I was a senior in high school in 1994, I remember discovering that women were not allowed on submarines. Not for any other reason, merely because they were women. I remember feeling as though women are viewed as spigots. Their rights are turned on and off whenever someone in power feels it is okay to do so. This ended up becoming one of my research topics for my high school history class. I am still friends with my history teacher and he still sends me research topics to this day. 24 years later, my son serves in the Navy, but women are now allowed on the submarines.
My very first job was at Kabod's Cafe in Jesup, IA where I worked for 2.5 years. During my time there, I worked as a server, cook, and eventually manager. It was the only place to get a cup of coffee with the local farmers in Jesup!

At the same time, I worked for Keyser Construction for 2 years where I was a receptionist and file clerk.

I started both jobs while I was in high school!
Harry Potter series - excellent composition and amazing story line. I always notice more details when I reread any of the books.
I believe the legislative chambers in my state serve as a means of checks and balances as compared to Democrats vs. Republicans.
I do not believe it is beneficial because you can learn the ropes when you get there. What is important is why you are running, what you are passionate about, and that you vote for the person that has brought the community together compared to voting with party politics.
I perceive the greatest challenges will be funding public education and creating more equitable access to healthcare.
A relationship where they listen to each other. When the legislature is not in session, the governor should communicate with the elected officials for input over the rest of the year.
Absolutely! And the majority of the decisions we make in this state are bipartisan.
I favor the community's involvement more than by geographical location. It does not make sense to breakup a community.
Yes, I would like to be on the Education Committee and Health and Environment Committee. If I could pick three, I'd be on the States, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee.
Yes, I would like to model myself after Janet Buckner from CO HD-40. I truly believe she is one of the best Coloradans serving as an elected official. She is kind, passionate, and dedicated to the people who live here. Although she has dealt with many difficult life experiences, she talks about them in a way that empowers other people to do great things.
Yes, I hope to continue to earn the votes and trust of the people who live here in order to represent them in the State Senate.
I have a collection of stories of health issues that people in my area face who have been exposed to water contamination. It breaks my heart to hear the many stories of loved ones who have passed away because of our water issues.
