Local Government and Municipal Finance Committee, Michigan House of Representatives (decommissioned)
The Local Government and Municipal Finance Committee (formerly the Local Government Committee) is a former standing committee of the Michigan House of Representatives.
Per Rules 8 and 33 of the Standing House Rules, committees of the Michigan House of Representatives are assigned by the Speaker of the House, except when otherwise ordered by the House.[1] Committees are appointed at the beginning of each two-year legislative session. The first person named to a committee is to serve as its chair, with the second serving as vice chair. In the absence of both, the first majority member appointed after them is to serve as acting chair.[2] All committees operate under Rule 34, known as the Uniform Committee Rules.[3]
See rules: Standing Rules of the House of Representatives in Accordance with the Michigan Constitution Article IV, Section 16
Function
The rules of the Senate and House do not describe the jurisdiction of the individual standing committees except that all Senate bills involving an appropriation must be referred either directly to the appropriations committee or to an appropriate standing committee and then to the appropriations committee. Traditionally, the assignment of bills follows topical lines.[4]
