Loistine DeFreece is the District 1 representative on the Public Schools of Robeson County school board in North Carolina. DeFreece sought and won another term in the general election on March 15, 2016.

Seven of the 11 seats on the Public Schools of Robeson County school board were up for general election on March 15, 2016. A total of 20 candidates filed for the seats in this election.[1]

The seats of Loistine DeFreece, Jo Ann Lowery, Bosco Locklear, John Campbell, Gary Strickland, Randy Lawson and Steve Martin were up for election. For the District 1 seat, DeFreece ran for re-election unopposed and won. In District 4, Locklear faced two challengers: Harold Hunt and Charles Bullard.[1] Bullard was successful in ousting the incumbent from the board and won the District 4 seat. Similarly, in District 5, Strickland also ran against two challengers: Craig Lowry and Larry Anthony Chavis. Once again, a newcomer was victorious with Lowry winning election to the seat. In District 7, Martin faced and defeated two challengers: Billy Prevatte and Brenda Allison. Finally, ten candidates vied for the three at-large seats, including incumbents Lawson, Lowery and Campbell: Darek Hunt, Severeo Kerns, Richard Monroe, Mary Thomas-Locklear, Elton L. Tyndall, Robert Davis and Brian Freeman.[1] Two of the incumbents—Cambell and Lawson—won, and one newcomer joined them in their victory: Brian Freeman.

Funding

School board candidates in North Carolina are required to file campaign finance reports to their county's board of elections unless the candidate:

(1) Does not receive more than one thousand dollars ($1,000) in contributions, and

(2) Does not receive more than one thousand dollars ($1,000) in loans, and

(3) Does not spend more than one thousand dollars ($1,000).[2]

The first quarter campaign finance deadline was on March 7, 2016.
