Long Beach Measure US, a general oil production tax increase measure, was on the ballot as a referral in Long Beach on November 3, 2020. It was approved.

A "yes" vote supported increasing the city's general-purpose oil production tax from $0.15 to up to $0.30 per barrel generating an estimated $1.6 million per year in addition to the city's special-purpose oil production tax of $0.33 per barrel with revenue dedicated to police and fire services.

A "no" vote opposed increasing the city's general-purpose oil production tax from $0.15 to up to $0.30 per barrel, thereby leaving the city's existing $0.15 per barrel general purpose and $0.33 per barrel police and fire services oil production taxes in place.


A simple majority was required for the approval of Measure US.

Ballot title

The ballot title for Measure US was as follows:

To provide funding for community healthcare services; air/water

quality and climate change programs; increase childhood education/ youth programs; expand job training opportunities; and maintain other general fund programs, shall a measure be adopted increasing Long Beach’s general oil production tax from 15¢ to maximum 30¢ per barrel, subject to annual adjustments, generating approximately $1,600,000 annually, until
