An effort to recall the Long Beach City College Board of Trustees in Long Beach, California was launched in April 2013. After several failed recall attempts, supporters switched the focus of the effort onto just Douglas Otto and Roberto Uranga.[1][2] The recall did not go to a vote.
Background
The recall effort was led Jason Troia, who was part of a group of college students and supporters upset over the board's decision to cut 11 arts and trade programs in January 2013. The program cuts were expected to help offset the college's structural deficit by $6.4 million. The decision triggered student protests and later the recall effort. The recall effort originally targeted board members Thomas Clark, Jeffrey Kellogg, Douglas Otto and Roberto Uranga. It did not target Mark Bowen, the only board member to vote against the program cuts.[3]

In July, after recall efforts had to be restarted twice due to paperwork issues and procedural errors, recall supporters narrowed their focus to Douglas Otto and Roberto Uranga.[2]
