Looking for Vermont's Next Justice
August 2nd, 2011
Vermont: The state of Vermont is seeking a new Vermont Supreme Court Justice to replace Justice Denise Johnson who will be stepping down from her post on August 31, 2011.[1]
Interested applicants wishing to fill this coming vacancy are asked to apply to the Judicial Nominating Committee. The Committee will screen all applicants and present their recommendations to Governor Peter Shumlin, who will then go over and choose from those recommendations.[1]
Justice Denise Johnson, appointed to the Vermont Supreme Court on December 3, 1990, was known for being the first woman to be on the court, as well as being known for her views on gender-equity and her concerns with the rights of criminal defendants.[1]
