The Lorain County Probate Court is the probate court for Lorain County, Ohio. The probate court is located on the 6th floor of the Lorain County Justice Center in the county seat of Elyria, Ohio. The probate court courtroom is also the location of oral arguments in Lorain County for the Ohio Ninth District Court of Appeals.[1]

There are over two hundred separate duties upon the Lorain County Probate Court set by the LAWriter: Ohio Laws and Rules, "Ohio Revised Code," accessed July 13, 2014. Duties of the probate court include the following: "the administration of decedent’s estates, consent for medical treatment, the appointment of guardians for minors and incapacitated adults and the supervision of their property, civil involuntary commitments of the mentally ill, adoptions, birth record corrections and registrations, changes of name, issuance of marriage licenses, supervision of testamentary trusts (those created by will) and interpretation and enforcement of intervivos trusts (those created during a person’s lifetime), land appropriations, and will constructions."[2]

2012 courtroom technology upgrade

In June, 2012, the Lorain County Probate Court courtroom received extensive technological upgrades. The upgrades included the installation of video conferencing, audio conferencing, video recording, digital evidence presenter, witness and attorney annotators, Blu-ray/DVD/CD player, monitors and cameras. [3]
