Loren Martell was a candidate for an at-large seat on the Duluth school board. Martell did not receive enough votes in the September 10 primary election to continue on to the general election on November 5, 2013.

Loren Martell challenged fellow candidates Annie Harala, Harry Welty, Henry L. Banks and Nancy Nilsen to win one of two at-large seats in the general election on November 5, 2013. Martell and Joshua Bixby were defeated in the September 10 primary election and did not continue on to the general election.

Loren Martell reported $1,485.00 in contributions and $1,154.28 in expenditures to Duluth Public Schools, which left his campaign with $330.72 on hand.[1]

Loren Martell did not receive any official endorsements for his campaign.

Campaign themes

In response to a survey from the Duluth News Tribune, Martell argued that there are two significant issues facing the school district:[2]

One is the district's dire fiscal condition, which is leading to overcrowded classes and a deterioration of the core of education. The other is a very strained and distrustful relationship with a large part of the public.
