Loretta "Lorie" Shekailo was a candidate for the District 1 seat on the Martin County School Board in Florida. She faced Christia Li Roberts and Jennifer Ann Doak in the general election on August 26, 2014. As one of the top two vote-getters, she advanced to the runoff election, which was held on November 4, 2014. Shekailo was defeated by Roberts in the runoff election.

Biography

Shekailo has her bachelor's degree from SUNY Oswego University and her master's degree from Villanova University. At the time of her candidacy, Shekailo was the director of finance and operations for St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. She was also a certified public accountant (CPA) in Florida and New York. She and her husband, Victor, have three children.[1]

The August 26, 2014, general election in Martin County featured three seats up for election. Jennifer Ann Doak, Christia Li Roberts and Loretta "Lorie" Shekailo were running to replace Michael Busha, who did not file for re-election in District 1. None of the three candidates received more than 50 percent of the vote in the general election. Christia Li Roberts and Loretta "Lorie" Shekailo, the top two vote-getters, advanced to the runoff election, which was held on November 4, 2014. Challenger Tina Maria McSoley defeated incumbent Maura Barry-Sorenson for the District 4 race, and incumbent Rebecca Jean Negron ran unopposed and won re-election.
