As 20-year U.S. Marine combat veteran, Lou Rogers, served as an Electrical Systems Engineer, marksmanship instructor, Uniformed Victim Advocate, suicide prevention counselor, recruiter, safety officer, and environmental compliance officer. During this time, Lou Rogers, deployed three separate occasions to Iraq and Afghanistan, maintained operational equipment accountability in excess of 10 million dollars, enforced strict safety and environmental regulations which lead to multiple award-winning command recognition. Lou Rogers has made it his mission to properly mentor and lead Marines in his charge. As a Marion resident, I am passionate about representing District 68, which includes Marion, Ely and Bertram.

After retiring from the Marine Corps 4 years ago, we decided to move to Marion. As a Marine Corps combat veteran and retiree, I have dedicated 20 years of my life protecting the safety and freedom, each of us enjoys each day. I believe in truth, justice, and the American way. I am currently a fulltime fire alarm technician and inspector, devoted husband to the love of my life, Amber and father to 6 children, a Marion Boys Baseball coach, a Cub Scout den leader, a nationally registered EMT and fire fighter, and a swim instructor/lifeguard at the Marion YMCA. I am a passionate, old school Eagle Scout and American, who will continue to fight and preserve our Constitutional rights.

Most importantly, my family and I are Christians who serve, love, and worship Jesus Christ.
  • Building healthy and meaningful relationships in business, agriculture, entrepreneurship through: (REMOVING THE GREY AREAS) Stigmas
  • Enforcing accountability/empowerment and ownership in schools
  • Empowering veterans and enhancing the capabilities of our first responders to be able to do their jobs without micro-management.
I am extremely passionate about tier levels of accountability in virtually every aspect of business - Schools, Medical and Mental Health facilities- to include proper care of abandoned - abused - troubled youth as well as proper care and respect to our elders and senior citizens. I am especially passionate about caring for the full life cycle from the moment of inception to natural end of life - i.e. no euthanizing the elderly.

The justice system needs to properly hold criminals accountable for their actions and punished according to the Rule of Law. The blame game is over - which includes the school - parent- child relationship.
Before I am to know Jesus Christ, I always looked up to Bruce Lee for his unique martial arts philosophy. In lieu of getting to Christ, I also have learned about recent mentors and military leadership figures such as Jocko Willink Leif Babin, Chris Kyle, David Goggins, and Dan Krenshaw. I truly value the military structure and ethos of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, the old school Boys Scout way - Scout Oath and Scout Law. Bridging these disciplines as it applies to business - politics- life in general are all elements of my character.
Extreme Ownership, The Dichotomy of Leadership, Can't Hurt Me, and Fortitude. Most importantly, the Bible, which lays out the ultimate playbook for a great life as a leader and a servant - Human Character.
Integrity, Ownership and accountability - without being overbearing and micro managing. Have common sense approaches by staying connected and involved in community. Being able to accept constructive criticism.
I value the very foundations this country was founded upon and a firm foundation in Jesus Christ. I grew up in scouting all the way to Eagle Scout. I also was in JROTC in high school, which by the way, should be incorporated in high schools in Iowa. I want to instill the same qualities and values I grew up knowing during my career in the Marine Corps, as a father, coach, mentor, and counselor.
Responsibility to "We the People" The rule of law, Honoring core values - God, family, country.
I would like be remembered for stay true to what I say and do what I carry out to do as a mission that is given to me, while making sure to incorporate common-sense approach to leadership and decision-making process - Teamwork.
I was around 13 years old when the Berlin wall came down. I also remember the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. I was had just turned 9 years old when that event occurred.
My first job was bagging groceries at age 15/16 at Winn Dixie in Florida, where I am originally from. I worked for a year to get my feet started on earning my own way in life. Nothing was ever free, I grew up learning responsibility and ownership early on.
Besides the Bible, my new favorite book is the Dichotomy of Leadership. Reason being it helped me examine the duality of my strengths and weaknesses in my leadership character.
I have had a tendency to be too headstrong and and overbearing, driven by own emotions. Before I came to know Jesus, I was very selfish and self-centered, especially earlier in my career. Being to independent made me to prideful in asking for help, especially when I needed it the most, hence ignoring God early in my life. I am very ambitious but also exhibit feelings over being overwhelmed, organizing a start to finish point without proper motivation and drive.
Having both house and senate chamber mirrors the structure of our nation. It incorporates a form of checks and balances in making major decisions for the state.
As an outsider looking to be a legislator, no. I would say rather, by taking an active approach researching, studying past, present, and future plans in government can help immensely, Bringing current, real life experiences to the table, I believe is what makes this country/state great. Having both real, day-to-day experiences while learning the political mindset, is a very unique dichotomy.
Facing the uncertainty that everyday life brings. Trying to satisfy everybody or more importantly, sacrificing ones beliefs and standards in hopes of keeping a seat is a struggle in itself. It requires constant accountability and revaluation of each individual on a periodic basis.
The governor the legislative body must work in tandem for the greater good of the people. There must always be a high level of honesty and integrity, without that no level of government can exist without remember where oneself came from. There should exist a leadership mindset of ownership while empowering others, aggression without being reckless, and a high level if humbleness and humility without passiveness.
I favor the current process in holding decisions through the respective commissions. I also value the input of the constituents, ensuring they are properly represented, by applying common-sense with respect to proper population coverage parameters.

Just to name a few

In my current door knocking campaign, one particular story I heard was regarding the current negative environment in taking place in both football and baseball teams. Not only that, the graphic nature of forced reading assignments that teach our young people about unhealthy relationships and told if they don't do required assignment they fail. That is not how school should be.
