Louisiana was expected to hold a general election for agriculture commissioner on November 18, 2023. A primary election would have been held on October 14, 2023. Both the primary election and general election were not needed after only incumbent Michael Strain (R) filed by the August 10, 2023, deadline.

If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.

There was a regularly scheduled election for agriculture commissioner in 2015. Michael Strain (R) ran for re-election. The primary election took place on October 24, 2015.
Despite there being four candidates on the primary ballot, incumbent Commissioner Mike Strain won a majority of votes, eliminating the need for a general election contest in November.[1]
