Louisiana House Bill 131, a law concerning candidate eligibility after a successful recall, was introduced by Rep. John Berthelot (R-88) on March 24, 2015. It was approved in the Louisiana House of Representatives on April 30, 2015, in a vote of 88-2. In the Louisiana State Senate, the bill was approved on May 26, 2015. It was signed into law as Act 50 by Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) on June 5, 2015.[1]

House Bill 131 added a provision to Louisiana's recall law preventing any recalled municipal official from running as a candidate in any special election scheduled before a regularly scheduled municipal election to fill the vacancy caused by the recall.[1]
Amendment text
House Bill 131 added the following subsection to Louisiana Revised Statutes Section 1300.13:[1]

(b) If the recalled public officer was removed from office as a member of the governing authority of a municipality governed by Part I of Chapter 2 of Title 33 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, he shall also be ineligible as a candidate at an election to fill a vacancy on the governing authority that is held prior to the next regularly scheduled election for members of the governing authority following the recall of the public officer.[2] |
