Louisiana House Legislative Services is a nonpartisan legislative service agency that is dedicated to serving the members of the Louisiana House of Representatives.
Governance
House Legislative Services is handled by a Executive Director who oversees the day to day operations of the agency.[1]
Services offered
Bill drafting
All bill, resolution, and amendment drafting for legislators is provided by House Legislative Services.[1]
Committee staffing
House Legislative Services is responsible for being the official research staff of all standing committees in the Louisiana House of Representatives.[1]
Fiscal research
A working fiscal division in House Legislative Services provides all committee staffing for all standing committees charged with the responsibility of monitoring Louisiana's finances. Also, all analysis on the state budget and state revenues are provided by the Fiscal Division.[1]
Research services
All short and long term research requests are handled by House Legislative Services. All research is done in a nonpartisan manner.[1]
History
In 1952, the Louisiana Legislative Council was established to offer legal and research support to both the House of Representatives and the Senate. In 1981, this led to the creation of House Legislative Services, which organized staff into subject matter divisions to enhance expertise and workload sharing.[2]
