Louisiana was expected to hold a general election for insurance commissioner on November 18, 2023. A primary election would have been held on October 14, 2023. Both the primary election and general election were not needed after R.D. Weaver (D) withdrew from the race, leaving Tim Temple (R) unopposed.
Candidates and election results
Louisiana elections use the majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.

The primary election was canceled. Tim Temple (R) won the election without appearing on the ballot.

There was a regularly scheduled election for insurance commissioner in 2015. James Donelon (R) was eligible for re-election. The primary election took place on October 24, 2015.
Despite there being four candidates on the primary ballot, incumbent Commissioner James Donelon won a majority of votes, eliminating the need for a general election contest in November.
