The Louisiana Judicial Vacancy Amendment, also known as Amendment 1, was on the ballot in Louisiana on October 22, 1983, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. It proposed that special elections called to fill judicial vacancies be held within 12 months of the vacancy occurring.[1][2]
