The Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) is a 501(c)(4) organization of school boards in Louisiana. The LSBA describes itself as "a non-profit entity created in 1938 with the purpose of providing leadership, service, and support for all elected school boards across the state."[1]

History

The Louisiana School Boards Association was founded in 1938.[1]As of July 2025, the group's website said their mission was to provide "Leadership, Service and Support for School Boards."[2]

LSBA leadership voted to withdraw from the National School Boards Association in October 2021.[3]

Work and activities

According to a LSBA press release published in Biz New Orleans, LSBA "offers training, legal guidance, policy services, and legislative advocacy to strengthen local school systems and ensure high-quality educational opportunities for all students. The Association serves as a crucial link between local school boards, state agencies, and the legislature, working to influence education policy and secure resources for Louisiana’s public schools."[4]

Additionally, as of July 2025, their website listed the following strategies:[2]

  • Promote public education and professional school board service with strategic coordination and meaningful collaboration with all stakeholders.
  • Conduct continuous assessment of the overall operations of the Association both internally and externally to ensure maximum effectiveness and service to the membership.
  • Provide relevant, valid and useful information along with training and routine communication to the membership and public education stakeholders so that LSBA is leading with impact.
  • Strive to be accessible and available to the membership to ensure connectivity and that the varied needs of each unique school board are being addressed successfully.
  • Engage partners to address critical issues.[5]
