The Louisiana Secretary of Energy and Natural Resources is a state executive position in the Louisiana state government. Appointed by the governor, the department was created in 1976 and also includes the Office of Coastal Management, the Office of Conservation and the Office of Mineral Resources.[1]

The secretary heads the Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources, whose mission is "to preserve and enhance the nonrenewable natural resources of the state, consisting of land, water, oil, gas, and other minerals, through conservation, regulation, management, and development to ensure that the state of Louisiana realizes appropriate economic benefit from its asset base."[1]

The current Louisiana Secretary of Energy and Natural Resources is Dustin Davidson (nonpartisan). Davidson assumed office in 2025.

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources is organized into these main divisions:[4]

Office of Coastal Management

The Office of Coastal Management is responsible for the maintenance and protection of the state's coastal wetlands.

Office of Conservation

The Office of Conservation has primary statutory responsibility for regulation and conservation of oil, gas, lignite, and other natural resources.

Office of Management and Finance

The Office of Management and Finance is responsible for the timely and cost-effective administration of accounting and budget control, procurement and contract management, information technology, management, and program analysis, personnel management, and grants management to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.

Office of Mineral Resources

The Office of Mineral Resources manages the state's mineral assets and advises the State Mineral and Energy Board. It is headed by the Assistant Secretary, who also serves as the Secretary of the State Mineral and Energy Board.
