The amendment would have enacted term limits on state civil service commissioners and shorten terms from six to four years.[1]

“ | Do you support an amendment to provide for term limits for state civil service commissioners, shorten their terms to four years, reduce the number of nominations by private university presidents, provide for the appointment of officers, provide for transitional provisions, and authorize by law a reduction of the number of required classified positions? | ” |

In Louisiana, a two-thirds vote is needed in each chamber of the Louisiana State Legislature to refer a legislatively referred constitutional amendment to the ballot for voter consideration.
This amendment was introduced as Senate Bill 181. The Senate approved the bill on April 9, 2024, in a vote of 26-11, with Republicans in favor and Democrats opposed. The amendment was not passed before the legislature adjourned its 2024 session.[1]
