The Louisiana State Income Taxes Amendment was not on the ballot in Louisiana as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 8, 2022.[1]

The amendment would have provided that income tax rates and brackets shall be provided for in state law and eliminated the ability to deduct federal income tax paid from state income taxes.[1]

Do you support an amendment to provide that income tax rates and brackets shall be established in law and to eliminate the mandatory deductibility of federal income taxes paid from individual income taxes? (Effective January 1, 2023) (Amends Article VII, Section 4(A))[2]

In Louisiana, a two-thirds vote is needed in each chamber of the Louisiana State Legislature to refer a legislatively referred constitutional amendment to the ballot for voter consideration.

This amendment was introduced as House Bill 274 (HB 274) on March 30, 2021. On May 20, 2021, the state House passed the bill in a vote of 99-2 with four absent. The amendment was not passed in the Senate before the legislature adjourned its 2021 legislative session on July 10, 2021.[1]
