The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 14, 2014. Incumbent Patti Ruff was unopposed in the Democratic primary and faced Lowell Engle (R), who filed to run on August 12, 2014, in the general election.[6][7][8] Incumbent Ruff defeated Engle in the general election.[9]
