Lucy Nashed is a Republican communications consultant in the state of Texas.
Career
Office of Gov. Rick Perry
Nashed began her career as a press office intern in Perry's office in 2008 and moved up to become communications director.[2] During Perry's 2012 presidential campaign, Nashed worked as deputy press secretary and as a spokesperson for Perry. She often worked to clarify Perry's views on issues. For example, when Perry's views on science "earned him rebuke from fellow Republicans," according to the Houston Chronicle, Nashed responded by highlighting Perry's educational initiatives for science: "Under this initiative, 51 T-STEM Academies, which focus on science, technology, engineering and math, have been created and served more than 17,000 Texas students."[3]
In March 2014, Nashed moved from deputy press secretary to Perry's press secretary.[2] In September 2014, Nashed was the public spokesperson for Perry when he sent 1,000 National Guard troops to the Texas border with Mexico. When Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto criticized Perry's decision, Nashed was quick to respond by saying, "Rather than questioning Gov. Perry’s decision to do what he knows is right for the citizens of his state and country, we wish the Mexican government would instead work more cooperatively with us to address this very serious problem."[4]

Rick Perry announced his presidential run on June 4, 2015.[5] Nashed was named communications director for the campaign, and as such she was responsible for addressing the press.[1] In August 2015, as Perry's campaign began to run out of funds, Nashed announced that the campaign could no longer pay some of its staff. In a statement, she said, "[T]ough decisions have to be made in respect to both monetary and time-related resources."[6] Perry suspended his campaign on September 11, 2015.[7]
Sid Miller press secretary
Nashed began working as the communications director for Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller in November 2015, after Perry suspended his presidential campaign. She resigned in April 2016, citing a "tremendous lack of communication" in the department. According to Nashed, a personal trip Miller took to Mississippi was mistakenly booked as a state trip. Miller paid the state back for the trip, but Nashed resigned after the incident, saying that the lack of communication made it difficult for her to be effective as communications director.[8]
Texans for Lawsuit Reform
After leaving Miller's office, Nashed began working as the communications director at Texans for Lawsuit Reform, a 501(c)(6) nonprofit membership organization. In 2017, she noted that caps on how much an individual can collect in a lawsuit was one reason for Texas' economic growth. She told The SE Texas Record, "Unnecessary and abusive lawsuits create a hidden tort tax on goods and services, eating up time and money for job creators and families, hindering economic growth."[9]
