Lucy has raised four children in Chula Vista all of whom attended schools in Chula Vista Elementary School District. After 27 years of teaching at Bonita Vista Middle School, in July 2023, she began serving teachers as the President of the Sweetwater Education Association.. Lucy is an advocate for students, parents, and the community.
  • The safety of our students and staff is a priority and as a trustee I have seen to the implementation of an online reporting system, installation of security cameras and the development of a district safety response team. I will continue to strengthen representation of educator, parent, and student voices in district safety plans by holding the administration accountable for their inclusion in the process. I will also encourage the continued development of programs that not only secure physical safety, but cybersecurity safety and social and emotional safety. Students learn when their basic need for safety is met and I will always advocate for the well being of our students and community.
  • Community Schools have been planned, implemented and grown during my trusteeship in CVESD. Community Schools have provided significant resources for our students and families, such as on-site pediatricians, optometry screenings, food services and more. The Community Schools program enriches students’ lives through extended learning opportunities, local community partnerships, and family and community involvement and engagement. As a trustee, I am proud to support our community schools and advocate for the development of community schools at more sites.
  • Before and after school enrichment programs have flourished in CVESD while I have been on the CVESD Board. Advancing these resources for our students is of great importance to me so that they can thrive in a nurturing academic environment outside of the school day.
Environmental health especially air and water quality as both affect the health of our community.
Elected officials represent the people who elect them, and not their own personal agenda.
I am a successful officeholder, because I listen, I am calm and consistent and I represent the people I serve, not myself.
As a trustee, I represent the students and their families, staff and the community. It is my job to listen and bring forward their concerns/
The primary job of a school board member is to provide vision and guidance to the superintendent and staff so that they can implement that vision. Focusing on the whole child and ensuring a safe environment for students to thrive is of great significance.
