Three of the seven seats on the Edgewood Independent School District school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. No incumbents filed for re-election in 2016. Edward Romero defeated Luis Gomez for the Position 7 seat. Position 4 candidate Martha Castilla and Position 5 candidate Joe Guerra won election without opposition.[1] The members cannot take office until at least 2018 due to the state's takeover of the school board in March 2016. The state-appointed board of managers is required to continue calling regularly scheduled elections during the duration of the state takeover.[2]
