Candidate Connection

Luis Vega participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 15, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Luis Vega's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

I am the next generation of Republican leadership that will promote more responsible government and a business-friendly state. My first act would be to create the first Veterans Committee at the state legislature, in doing so I aim to have bills concerning veterans given the attention they deserve. I will also strengthen the Nevada Department of Veteran Services (NDVS) and Nevada Attorney General’s Office of Military Legal Assistance (OMLA). I will fight to ensure the money promised to the schools is reaching the teachers and students.[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Veterans affairs: I will be a voice for veterans in the Assembly. Just as they never wavered in their service to us, I will never waiver in honoring their sacrifice.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Luis Vega answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

I look up to my mother and father. They raised me to be a man of my word. They instilled the principles of honesty and respect in me at an early age. By watching my father struggle with two jobs to support our family, I realized that nothing was going to be given to me. Like my father I am going to stand on my own two feet and work hard for what I believe in. This instilled discipline and creating pride in ownership. My mother taught me that faith and family values are principles to becoming a well-rounded member of society. I used the lessons learned to succeed in life and to defend the country I love when it needed me most.[3]
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else that best describes your political philosophy?
Servant Leadership. Service over self.[3]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
My playbook is simple, outwork the competition, take the fight to the enemy, extreme ownership, service over self, be accessible and most importantly lead by example and lead from the front![3]
What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?
Over five years of progressive senior management experience in the United States Army Infantry. I spent the last two years helping veterans fight for the rights they earned. I am a young hard charging veteran that will take the fight to the legislature. My team of young Devil Dogs and patriots will outwork the competition despite the odds.[3]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
Listen, care and do everything you can to help.[3]
What legacy would you like to leave?
Make Nevada the most veteran friendly state in the country![3]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at that time?
I was moved by the events of 9-11 and Joined the Army.[3]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
Server at the Olive Garden.[3]
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
My two Dobermans.[3]
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Education: I will fight to ensure the money promised to the schools is reaching the teachers and students.[3]
If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the legislature, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?
I am the next generation of Republican leadership that will promote more responsible government and a business-friendly state. It's time for new leadership, I have the energy, time and drive to walk everyday meeting voters. Young conservatives, are the future of the Republican party. I am stepping up and taking action instead of complaining from the sidelines.[3]
