I retired from the FAA after nearly 40 years of public service. While there I was also a regional Union representative for the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists with responsibilities in 22 states. I have a degree in admiration and leadership and have represented thousands of employee complaints before the agency, as well as advocating for constituents before the US congress and multiple media outlets. More locally I have been the elected school board moderator for both the Weare and John Stark schools for multiple terms as well as being elected to the Weare Ethics Committee where I act as the current Chairperson.
I was born and raised in NH in a family which settled NH in 1648 and only lived out of state during my active duty service with the USAF.
My wife and I raised our two young adult children here in town where they attended the public school system before enrolling in college (UNH and SCAD). My wife is still employed an Environmental Protection professional. Together we operate a small farm where we have raised Highland Cattle, heritage pigs, and chickens.
  • I have been a successful advocate for working families for decades and will continue my work to ensure fair wages and benefits for all Weare citizens.
  • I will work to ensure access to affordable housing, childcare, healthcare and public education for Weare. I believe in the application of fact based critical thinking skills in considering all legislation that may come before the NH house and have a proven track record of success in advocating common sense solutions through reasoned discussion, collaboration, and mutual respect. I firmly believe that the return of reasoned civil discourse is fundamental to a deep understanding of all perspectives and will continue to work from the position that we all have many more common interests than those that divide us.
  • Government should work for the common good, not special interests. I am a member of a party, but not a thoughtless follower. In my view government should support citizens in their pursuit of personal success while not involving itself in the life decisions best left to families and individuals. I believe that all citizens must be treated equally before the law. I believe: That our state constitution requires equal access to quality education. That women’s rights to bodily autonomy are human rights. That citizens identity choices are not a government concern. That Church and state are rightfully separate under the law. That the US and NH constitutions must be our guide and I will always uphold my vows to protect and defend.
Quality Public education. Access to affordable home ownership. Support for working families. Fair wages and benefits. Equal rights for all. Reasonable environmental protections. Being a voice for the citizens, not an advocate of personal platform. Citizens accessibility to government. Common sense rationale decisions.
I have had many positive mentors in my life. If I had to choose one I would say Carl Sagan because he worked to provide a fact based understanding of our place in the world and the universe and our common responsibility to all. Next would be Jane Goodall who dedicates her life to many of the same ideals.
Being accessible to constituents. Fact based decisions. Ability lo listen and a willingness to adjust positions based on new information. Equitable representation for ALL citizens. Mutual respect for all. An ability to compromise appropriately. Being true to the constituents, not the special interests. Experience in and a willingness to work collectively toward common interests.
Compassionate listening skills. Proven communicator. Fierce advocate for working people. Trained facilitator, moderator, and collaborator. Constant critical thinker. Meticulous researcher.
To research and understand multiple perspectives on all issues before the house. Being available to citizens to hear their concerns and perspectives. To represent the people over partisan concerns or special interests. To communicate consistently with the citizens. To be a strong advocate for citizens concerns. To deeply understand the legislative process. To do the necessary work of collaboration with all sides on every issue without abandoning core values.
I don’t need a legacy but if spoken about at all it would be that I always listened. Took the time to explain and followed my core values in leadership.
Farm work on the family farm until I joined the USAF
Lord of the Rings because it taught me the limitless universe of imagination.
I’m teaching myself another language so it’s a pop song from that culture..
Coming from a low income background limited my early access to education opportunities despite being labeled as “gifted”.
Professionalism, mutual respect and open dialogue. Facts and common sense above partisan considerations. An ability to disagree without demeaning.
Supporting the success of working families when they are priced out of housing, suffer inequitable access to education. In short changing the trend of loosing our next generation of citizens who are forced to look out of state for jobs, housing, education and advancement opportunities.
Beneficial yes, mandatory no. What is mandatory is being willing to invest the time and effort to understand the system as it exists so as to strengthen where needed and change where necessary.
Absolutely. Government is a collective activity. You must be able to understand others perspectives, whether you agree with them or not. People listen to those they respect. Civil discourse and fact based reasoning build trust with others about how you come to positions, and indicate a willingness to change when confronted with new information.
No. Although I admire some aspects of many leaders I think it is imperative to remain my own person and I work to model myself on my core values, principles, and beliefs.
Young family members who have left NH because their full time jobs could not afford them basic living conditions. Others who have been financially devastated by illness or injury.
Always oversee. Granting depends on the nature of the emergency. There are appropriate separations of power contemplated in the NH and US constitutions and these should be respected. It is however critically important that the legislature hold executives to account for misuse and or abuse of emergency powers.
Legislation supporting equal access to quality public education.
Education. Housing. Transportation. Commerce. Science and technology. Labor. Fish and Game. Law enforcement.
Strongly support financial transparency. Accountability in governance is a lifelong core value. Citizens support government when they believe that it works in their interests and can only do that if they can easily access not just the laws made, but how those laws are influenced by outside interests.
I think ballot initiatives can be helpful provided there are appropriate checks and balances to ensure constitutional compliance
