- Louisiana’s leadership should be itching at the chance to invest in our infrastructure, not calling infrastructure spending “wasteful.”
- Health care is a right, not a privilege.
- We have to create an economy that serves everyone, not just those at the top.

Mixon's campaign website stated the following:

Inflation LOWER GAS AND GROCERY COSTS FOR FAMILIES Inflation is hurting Louisiana families. Every time we buy milk, food, and put a little gas in our car, we feel it. It’s time to stop talking about inflation and do something to bring costs down. That means investing in American supply chains and creating jobs here in Louisiana. It’s time we relied on American workers more than foreign nations.
FINANCIAL SECURITY AND STRONGER FAMILIES Few industries were hit harder by the pandemic than child care. As a result, high demand and low supply are driving up already sky-high daycare costs. These costs are crushing Louisiana families. The average family with two kids in Louisiana spends one-fifth of their household income on daycare. That is a prohibitive cost that discourages parents–particularly mothers–from entering the workforce, hurting our families and our economy. I will work to make daycare more affordable to ensure more households can enjoy the financial security that comes from bringing home two paychecks.
EFFECTIVE AND HUMANE POLICING THAT KEEPS OUR COMMUNITIES SAFE When it comes to protecting our neighborhoods, we are not Republicans and Democrats. We are moms, dads, friends, family, and neighbors. Police departments across Louisiana are critically understaffed, underpaid, and under-funded. We need to invest in our police departments, providing them with the funds required to hire more qualified officers, improve training, boost response times, and keep our neighborhoods safe. Every family deserves a safe community where they can raise their children. If we take the politics out of public safety, we can have effective and humane policing that keeps us safe.
AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE FOR LOUISIANA FAMILIES Health insurance can’t be just for the rich. Quality, affordable health care for working people is an investment in Louisiana families. We’re talking about moms who need mammograms, dads who need cholesterol medications, children who need checkups, grandparents managing their diabetes, and all the unexpected hardships we face. Governor John Bel Edwards’ Medicaid expansion provided health care to nearly 600,000 Louisianans. That was a lifesaver before the pandemic, but it was a God-send for families during the pandemic. So we have made significant progress, but I believe that we need to close coverage gaps and lower costs. In the wealthiest nation on earth, living-saving drugs should be affordable. Instead, we see neighboring countries enjoying the benefits of affordable medicines while Americans go broke at the pharmacy. I will fight to ensure that no one has to choose between filling a prescription and paying the light bill.
DEFEND DEMOCRACY, PROTECT VOTING RIGHTS I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy 109 days before 9/11 and spent the next 20 years defending our nation as a fighter pilot overseas. I'm not going to sit silently while Senator John Kennedy attacks our democracy at home. Voting is our birthright as Americans. Yet, we are seeing states enact laws that make it harder for Americans to exercise this fundamental right. Senator Kennedy consistently opposes measures to protect voting rights. We must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to combat voter suppression and ensure the right to vote remains intact, and I support a carve out in the filibuster to protect this most sacred right for all americans. In America, the people choose their leaders–not the other way around. Yet, Senator John Kennedy voted to throw out millions of legally cast ballots, choosing chaos and violence over law and order. We must hold him accountable for his attack on our election because nothing else matters if we lose our democracy.
AN HONEST WAGE FOR AN HONEST DAY'S WORK I believe in the dignity of work and a fair wage for an honest day’s work. However, $7.25 is a poverty wage. There is no state in the country where you can support a family on $7.25 per hour. The federal minimum wage has not been raised since 2009. Inflation has robbed workers of 17% of their wage’s value over the last 13 years. I will work to increase the minimum wage to ensure that working people are fairly compensated for their work and that they can support a family.
GOOD JOBS AND A COMPETITIVE STATE Anyone who has driven on Louisiana roads knows that they’re in bad shape. There are enough bad roads in Louisiana to stretch from New Orleans to Canada and back! Additionally, we have 1,600 structurally deficient bridges in this state, and our citizens suffer thousands of boil advisories every year. Yet, Senator Kennedy voted against the bipartisan infrastructure bill and its good-paying jobs, calling it “wasteful spending” and “stupid stuff.” The bipartisan infrastructure isn’t stupid stuff. It repaves our roads, repairs our bridges, ensures that every family has access to clean drinking water, expands broadband access for rural and inner-city communities, and restores our coastline while creating thousands of good-paying union jobs in Louisiana. I support the bipartisan infrastructure deal. And I will fight for continued investments in Louisiana infrastructure that makes our economy more competitive, hardens our state against devastating storms, and creates jobs for working people.
A BRIGHTER TOMORROW Education is the key to future success. Unfortunately, we are failing our children and sabotaging our future. Less than half of Louisiana public school students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade are reading at the appropriate grade level. Less than half! That’s unacceptable. We have to close the literacy gap, which is why I support making quality, affordable Pre-K available to every Louisiana child. I will also make fair and competitive funding for our HBCUs and career training programs a top priority.
FUEL THE FUTURE Fossil fuels are not going anywhere, and Louisiana will continue to be an oil and gas state. But Louisiana's location, landscape, and natural resources invite us to enter emerging energy markets that will bring good-paying jobs to our state. We will continue producing oil and gas while taking advantage of wind, solar, and other renewables, which provide residents with cost-efficient and reliable sources of energy and good-paying jobs tailored to our workforce. This is an incredible opportunity for Louisiana to lead the future.
SAVE THE SPORTSMAN'S PARADISE Louisiana has lost approximately 2,000 square miles of land since the 1930s; that’s roughly equal in size to the state of Delaware. We’re talking about people’s homes, farms, businesses, family memories, and billions of dollars. Coastal erosion combined with the once-in-a-generation storms that lay waste to our state nearly every year has resulted in the loss of life, property, and industry. Without intervention, projections indicate that Louisiana could lose as much land as we’ve lost over the past ninety years in the next fifty years. So we’re doomed if we continue on our current path. When it comes to the future and security of our state, we need to trust the world-class scientists and experts working on this issue. Therefore, I support the implementation of Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan. This science-based approach creates new jobs, protects existing industries, and safeguards our state against rising sea levels and catastrophic storms.[2] |
