Lumbee Tribal Government Amendment, 2010
The Lumbee Tribal Government Amendments may appear on the spring 2010 election in the state of North Carolina for the Lumbee Nation. Members of the tribe is supporting three measures that would provide for more financial oversight for the Lumbee Tribal Council. The measures would also implement specific procedures for removing members from the elections board and prohibit Tribal Council members from obtaining other elected positions in the tribe.
Although the elections board had their hopes set on public votes on the amendments during the November tribal elections, the Lumbees will now have to wait until the spring elections to decide on the issues. The current wait results from the Lumbee Supreme Courts decision to put the amendments on the spring ballot.[1]
