|- I sincerely believe that access to affordable higher education promotes a diverse workforce, drives local economic growth, and results in safer communities. My top priority is keeping tuition low so those who want an education can get one and those who get an education can do so without the burden of decades of student loan repayment.
- As the demand for qualified tradespeople grows, communities should lean into early exposure to careers in the trades that offer great pay, good benefits and come with little to no student loan debt. Part of that early exposure comes directly from high schools and outreach such as career fairs and academic advising. I intend to work directly with the students and faculty in our district to increase the awareness and passion for the trades before the students even have to decide if a college education is for them so that the decision is easy when the time comes.
- Students at community colleges come from a variety of backgrounds and can have a diverse set of needs. I support building on current student services offered at MCC, such as the GED program, 180 reentry, mental health support, food pantry access, and meaningful transportation access; because students have better academic outcomes and are more prepared to enter the workforce when their basic needs are met.
