My name is Lynae Tucker-Chellew and I am running to represent District 3 for the MCC Board of Governors. My husband Ryan and I have lived in Omaha for a year and a half and are proud to call this our forever home. I received my Bachelors Degree from DePaul University (Go Blue Devils Basketball!) before attending and graduating from the University of South Dakota School of Law with my Juris Doctorate in 2018. In our spare time, we enjoy traveling, riding bicycles, listening to live music and spending time with our three dogs: Mia, Emerson and Cooper. My passions revolve around community service, advocating for access to education, supporting small businesses and making time to give back to others the way I have been lifted up by those before me both personally and professionally.
  • I sincerely believe that access to affordable higher education promotes a diverse workforce, drives local economic growth, and results in safer communities. My top priority is keeping tuition low so those who want an education can get one and those who get an education can do so without the burden of decades of student loan repayment.
  • As the demand for qualified tradespeople grows, communities should lean into early exposure to careers in the trades that offer great pay, good benefits and come with little to no student loan debt. Part of that early exposure comes directly from high schools and outreach such as career fairs and academic advising. I intend to work directly with the students and faculty in our district to increase the awareness and passion for the trades before the students even have to decide if a college education is for them so that the decision is easy when the time comes.
  • Students at community colleges come from a variety of backgrounds and can have a diverse set of needs. I support building on current student services offered at MCC, such as the GED program, 180 reentry, mental health support, food pantry access, and meaningful transportation access; because students have better academic outcomes and are more prepared to enter the workforce when their basic needs are met.
Supporting competition and entrepreneurship; lowering taxes; ready and prepared workforce; increasing public understand and awareness about the impact of trauma on individuals and the surrounding communities.
To act in accordance with the constituencies' priorities, to be honest and transparent, and to put themselves second to the betterment of the community.
The first major historical event that happened in my lifetime was the 9/11 terroirs attack on the World Trade Center. I was in elementary school in a town that had a large air force base. Many of my friends' families were deployed in the following years but at the time of the attack our teacher put the news on and left it on the rest of the day. That was the first day that I remember truly feeling patriotic and feeling like being an American was one of the most meaningful identities I had.
