I'm a product of NC public schools and parent of two Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) graduates. I've worked in public education advocacy for more than twenty years, including leadership roles in PTAs and serving on WCPSS citizen advisory boards. As a member at large of the Wake County Library Commission, I will support students' access to books and the freedom to read as outlined by the American Library Association. My career as Outreach Director for Public Schools First NC gives me a broad understanding of how state policy and funding decisions impact our local school districts.
  • I believe public schools are a public good, worthy of our support and investment. School board members must be champions for public education, put students first and support teachers and the teaching profession.
  • While working to ensure all students get a quality education, we must focus on equity in our funding and policy decisions. It's important that all students have what they need to be successful. I believe in a whole-child approach to education.
  • We must ensure our schools are safe spaces for all. In addition to protecting students and staff from intruders, we must focus on violence prevention including anti-bullying programs. I support raising the number of counselors, social workers, psychologists and nurses in our schools.
Public policy involving K-12 and early childhood education is most important to me. I am opposed to public money going to private school vouchers. I believe our public schools must be fully funded and the teaching profession respected. I'm passionate about truth and facts being taught in all content areas and public policy that supports the whole child. Policies that aim to support and help children rather than punish them are important to me. When children are in crisis, are engaging in dangerous and/or violent behavior, I believe we must make every effort to help them including the use of restorative justice practices. All students and staff should feel safe in our schools regardless of identity or life experience. Finally, I believe education policies must be developed with a focus on equity.
