I'm Lynne King Smith and I am running to be the next Gilbert Mayor. I am a business owner and executive, who built my first business right here in Gilbert - in our garage. I steered that business through the last recession, making difficult budget cuts and without losing a single employee. That company, TicketForce, is a true homegrown success story here in Gilbert, and I have since started three other companies since then. I serve on a number of national boards and organizations, including Vistage CEO, the leading CEO network, as well as locally on the Mayors Business Advisory Council. I was also a member of the former Gilbert Arts, Tourism & Culture commission, a group I look forward to bringing back when I am mayor. My leadership and business experience, combined with my love for my community, drive me to give back and lead Gilbert. I am ready to get to work for Gilbert. I look forward to having the honor of your vote on August 4th.
  • Integrity - my business background has given me the experience to lead with conviction, working together for the greater good.
  • Values - as a wife and mother of three, it is important to me that all families feel connected to our community.
  • Compassion - I care about Gilbert, and want our community to be known for its kindness, where everyone is welcome.
As a small business owner and entrepreneur, I am committed to enhancing how our town supports small businesses and start ups. The recent crisis has shown how important it is to be a close knit business community, and to support local businesses. The demand for aid and relief is real, but our businesses struggle to find the resources and navigate complicated forms, while trying to keep their business afloat. I will create a small business assistance center where people who are looking to start their own company, and those who already have their own business, can go for resources and assistance on everything from understanding the tax system in Arizona to connecting with local banks for startup loans and federal economic relief.

I also want to increase the transparency from the town council and mayor, and start going out into the community (even virtually!) to take the issues to the people. Gilbert is a community of more than a quarter million people - and growing - and we cannot expect every resident to tune into the live stream of Council meetings or attend in person. Gilbert is a strong community, with great neighborhoods, and we can do better at hearing from the residents what issues matter the most to them, and clearly communicating the work of the Council.
The most important characteristic for an elected official is being able to set aside their own personal ideologies in order to do what is in the best interest of the greater good of their community.
The Watergate hearings in 1974. I was 10 that summer and watched the hearings. President Nixon resigned on my birthday!
The mayor's role in their community is to serve the residents and businesses within their community to the best of their ability and ensure everyone feels they are represented.
The mayor of Gilbert is a champion for our community, and that means having the ability to advocate on its behalf with great pride, while working to constantly innovate and improve how we are serving our residents and businesses.
