Crane was a candidate for at-large representative on the Mercer County Schools Board of Education in West Virginia. The general election was held on November 8, 2016. He lost the election.[1][2]

One seat on the Mercer County Schools Board of Education was up for special election on November 8, 2016. In her bid for re-election, appointed incumbent Jacinda Santon Smith defeated newcomer M.C. "Skip" Crane Jr. and former member Gregory Prudich to win another term.[1][3][2]

At the time of this election, the Mercer County Election Office did not publish school board candidate campaign finance reports online. Ballotpedia staff directly requested this information, but the county did not provide it.
