M. Andrea Leyva Burrise was the Trustee Area 2 member on the Stockton Unified Board of Education in California. She was first elected to the board in the general election on November 4, 2014. Burrise did not file to run for re-election in 2018.
Biography
Burrise earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of California-Los Angeles in 1999 and a J.D. from the University of the Pacific in 2012. Currently an attorney and owner of Burrise Way Law, she has been a teacher for over ten years and has taught in five elementary schools in the district.[1][2]
Elections
2014
The election in Stockton Unified featured four seats up for general election on November 4, 2014. There was no primary election.
Incumbents David Varela, David L. Midura and Steven L. Smith, from Trustee Areas 5, 6 and 7, respectively, were up for re-election. The Trustee Area 2 seat was also up for election but, due to term limits, incumbent Salvador Ramirez could not run for re-election.
Challenger M. Andrea Leyva Burrise defeated Yarikza Comparan, Angelann Flores and Vincent Stephen Sayles for the Trustee Area 2 seat. Maria Mendez defeated Varela and fellow challenger Marc Zamarripa in Trustee Area 5. Angela Phillips also won election to the board after defeating Midura and fellow challenger Tariq Khan in Trustee Area 6. Smith defeated challengers Patricia Hague and Samuel "Sammy" Nunez to retain the Trustee Area 7 seat.
