The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 28, 2014. William M. Cox Jr. defeated M. Douglas "Doug" Smith in the Democratic primary, while C.B. Embry Jr. ran unopposed in the Republican primary. Embry defeated Cox in the general election.[1][2][3]
