M. Jon Kolomitz was the Chief Judge of the Colorado 16th Judicial District Court. He was appointed to this court on February 1, 1985 and became Chief Judge in July of 1988.[1] He retired from the court in January 2013.[2]

Education

Kolomitz attended the University of Colorado for his law degree.[1]

Career

Kolomitz began his career as a F.B.I. agent. In 1969, he left that job to work as a private practice lawyer in La Junta, Colorado. He joined the 16th District Court in 1985.[1]

Elections

2012

Kolomitz was retained in the general election on November 6, winning 75.39% of the vote.[3]

Judicial performance evaluation

The Sixteenth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance announced its recommendations for judges up for retention in 2012. According to its website, the commission evaluates judges based on the following criteria: integrity, legal knowledge, communication skills, judicial temperament, and administrative performance.[4]


Chief Judge Kolomitz was recommended for retention by an unanimous vote. [5]
