I'm a UW-Madison Student who believes that students deserve to be listened to within the City. I'm running on a platform of creating affordable housing and decreasing rent, focusing on sustainability, improving transportation, increasing mental health accessibility, and more. My goal running for City Council is not only represent students, but to uplift their voices and directly get them involved and engaged in the process. If elected, I will continue to meet with students and campus groups, attend meetings and be held accountable. Transparency and honesty is key in democracy and I will fight for those ideals.
  • Affordable Housing - Madison lacks housing in general, and affordable housing specifically. I will work to create a comprehensive plan with the University and City to focus specifically on affordable student housing. Developers should prioritize units that are affordable, we do not need luxury apartments with private pools and gyms.
  • Safety - I believe that there are many safety improvements to be made in Madison. From increased education on existing resources (Rape Crisis Center, Tenant Resource Center, etc.) to engaging with community members directly to see how and where safety can be improved. I will also work with the Dane County District Attorney to actually prosecute sexual assault cases, since they currently go largely ignored if a student brings them up.
  • Sustainability - There are many specifics when it comes to creating a safe environment for our planet. My overall approach will be to have a systematic perspective of the issue, meaning every policy change deserves the question "does this improve sustainability efforts?". I will push sustainability efforts whenever possible.
I'm passionate about Affordable Housing and Mental Health Accessibility. I live in an apartment with no window in my bedroom, because that's what I can afford. The elevator was broken for half a semester, and the heating would go in and out during winter. I know I'm not the only one who deals with similar situations. This is not safe, and this is inhumane -- housing is a human right. I will fight wherever and however possible to ensure that students have safe and affordable housing.

Mental Health is healthcare, and healthcare is a right. I will work to expand the existing City of Madison CARES Program which allows you to call 911 for immediate mental health service. It currently does not run during night time, or on weekends - when most mental health crisis calls occur. I will expand this to run 24/7, and expand it geographically to nearby cities with their cooperation as well.
