I have been a small business owner most of my adult life. As such, I have dealt with booming economies, and grueling recessions. Over the years I have worn every hat there is: human resources, marketing, bookkeeping, purchasing, right up to actual production. I have been married to my husband, Bill, for several decades, and we raised wonderful children. We now enjoy the fruits of that with our seven grandchildren.

I have been in leadership in the state GOP for many years and am currently the Canyon County Republican Central Committee Chairman. I am a lifelong Idahoan, with a passion for freedom, no patience for the liberal agenda, and the desire to keep Idaho a true conservative state.

  • I want to keep Idaho truly conservative - the shining city on the hill per se. I feel Idaho has a target on it's back to many liberal organizations who desperately want to "take us down". I think they will just keep coming and we have to fight the good fight and not give in to the socialist agenda. .
  • I believe traditional family values are the backbone of American society and should be preserved. I believe we are a nation designed on Christian values and our republic will only continue to work if we honor that.
  • I would like to see Idaho become more financially independent. Our federal government is bankrupt and we need to stop using federal funds as an excuse for new programs. I believe government at every level is bloated, and I believe excessive regulations choke the life out of small business.
I am definitely passionate regarding social issues. I believe there is only male and female. In today's world you must accept multiple genders or be ridiculed, even fired, fined, or prosecuted. I feel that people who do not agree with those beliefs have as many rights as those forcing their beliefs on others. I do not believe in anger or hatred, just love and compassion, but I believe it goes both ways. The progressive mindset today is hateful and hypocritical, and about as far from "inclusive" as you can get.

I believe our schools are filled with hard working, passionate individuals, but the education system itself is broken. I believe in parental accountability, school discipline, and a back to the basics approach. Somewhere along the way our schools became daycare centers, social services hubs, and feeding stations. We need a complete overhaul of the system. I also believe the money follows the child concept. Our higher education system is nothing more than a self created ponzi scheme that has crippled an entire generation with debt. Out of control administrative spending and ridiculous diversity programs should all be addressed.

I believe our local taxing authorities should not be allowed to operate the way they do. Only cities and counties are able to set their budgets first, then decide how much your levy will be to come up with that amount. They should be forced to work within a budget, just as all taxpayers do.
President Ronald Reagan was a true statesman that had a way of making the country feel like everything was going to be okay. He was the first politician that struck a chord in me, a yearning to make the world better. I didn't grow up in a particularly political home, and most of my friends were of the generation that was rebelling against authority. When I heard Ronald Reagan speak, it was as if he was speaking directly to me, and I agreed with everything he was saying. It was then I realized I was a conservative. And whether you agree with everything he did or not, you cannot argue with his common sense style of leadership.
The classic by Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, made a lasting impression on me early in life.
Of course an elected official should be honest, caring, empathetic, and motivated. They should be doing the job for the citizens, not for themselves. They should be able to look at a situation from every point of view, not just their own. They also need to be strong, believing in themselves as well as their convictions.
I believe I have an ability to see situations from every angle, to be able to put myself in the shoes of someone else. And even if I may not agree with another point of view, it allows me to understand it. This in turn allows me to relate, communicate, and work with people of all belief systems.
The core responsibility is to represent the people of District 12 in the Idaho House of Representatives.
I want future generations to see the liberty in self sufficiency, to realize that no one owes them anything. Where hard work and determination become the calling cards of success. A return to what made this country great, the belief that with enough grit and imagination, anyone could do anything. The belief system that everything must be fair and equal for all will destroy us.
The assassination of JFK. I was young, but I remember knowing in my heart that this was a huge deal. I remember where I was and what I was doing, definitely one of those iconic moments.
I started working in the fields at age 12. I had family in Oregon, and quite often I would go there the first part of summer break and pick strawberries and cherries. Then as the season progressed, return to Idaho to top corn and onions. This was automatic to kids I grew up with, we all worked in the fields. Later in my teens I worked for a local seed company on cross pollination. It required a combination of field work and record keeping, you had to keep track of all the different types of plants you were working with.
I have adored many, many books over the years, always been an avid reader with historical fiction as my go to genre. When the electronic readers first came out, I had a hard time replacing all my hard copies. Eventually I caved and it was like opening this wondrous world where you could have any book at your fingertips. (Not to mention how much easier it was to do a road trip or go on a vacation.) But if I had to pick one book from my entire life, I would choose Walter Farley's Black Stallion. I read the entire Black Stallion series as a child, over and over, and continually returned to the original well into my teens. All my copies were completely tattered from use. I don't believe there is any other book in my life that I have read so many times.
Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London, been a cult favorite of mine for decades. Even the slightest reminder of it will get it stuck in my head forever....and I don't care!
Having experience in any endeavor can often be advantageous, and I do believe there is something to be said for certain legislative experience. Knowing how things work, informational resources, negotiating skills, are all important and can be improved with experience. With that said, there is no replacing the exuberance and fresh ideas of someone with no experience. Sometimes new people looking at old problems are the only solution.
Our state is growing at an alarming rate, and handling this growth in the next decade will be a challenge. The change in demographics of our urban areas with this growth will leave the majority of rural Idaho straining to maintain the conservative lifestyle they desire. Add this problem to out of state progressive groups flooding the state with resources to change us from the ground up, and I see plenty of challenges ahead.
The ideal relationship to me is separation. I see them as separate branches of government, each with their own function. If they are not separated, there is no reason to have our form of government. I would hope they are respectful and willing to work together when necessary for the good of the state. They should be willing to work together, and willing to stand their ground if such an issue is presented. Idaho is fortunate that for many years the Governor and the legislative majority are of the same political party.
Building relationships is beneficial in any capacity. The world revolves around relationships of any type, and is almost always the first step in most successful action. Whether a mentoring relationship, a peer relationship, or adversarial, they all serve a purpose and are extremely important.
I would be particularly interested in working with the Transportation Committee. I see this as a huge issue for the future of Idaho. Also, as a small business owner for over 35 years, the Business Committee would be a good fit, as well as the Local Government Committee. And of course, the Education Committee would always be a top choice.
Seniors feeling helpless against rising property taxes is most definitely the hardest thing I hear. They have lived in these homes for most of their lives and now, when they should be doing nothing but enjoying life in their gardens, they are worried about where they will end up. The stories are heart wrenching, and prolific. We must address the issues we have with skyrocketing property taxes in our state, but most particularly in our urban counties.
