- Recent decisions from the Idaho legislature are harming women's healthcare. The current abortion bill has caused over 20 % of the OB/GYN physicians to flee the state. The combination of not allowing an exception to preserve the health of the mother and the physician risking their medical license has made Idaho noncompetitive in recruiting and retaining physicians. This is a critical issue. Over half of our counties have no OB/GYN care. I do not believe government should be involved in personal healthcare decisions. Every case is different and for this reason these decisions should be made by women and their doctors not politicians in Boise.
- Food cost inflation hits all of us. As a retiree I am well aware of the food cost inflation. What can be done? Idaho is one 13 states that tax food. This tax hits lower and middle income citizens the hardest. I believe we either need to increase the tax credit or find better revenue sources and repeal the food tax. Currently Idaho gives billions in tax exemptions to businesses. This can be a good way generate jobs, but there needs to be better oversight and transparency concerning these exemptions. For example, there should be sunset laws on these exemptions. There should be guarantees that those exemptions help Idaho. There should be public review and transparency concerning exemptions that tax payers subsidize.
- I want our Public Lands to stay in the public hands. I believe those lands should be for all taxpaying citizens to use. They should not be used for private interests. We are so fortunate to have access to these beautiful places. Whatever mode of recreation we choose we have incredible choices of wild places to recreate. I want that to be preserved for future generations.
