Sacramento, California: U.S. Magistrate Judge Kimberly Mueller, who serves on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to become a district judge for this court. She was first appointed to this position by President Obama on March 10, 2010, but the appointment was not confirmed until December 16th. She now holds the title of the first woman to serve as a district judge on this court. It is a lifetime appointment. She will replace former Judge Frank Damrell, who assumed senior status at the end of 2008. Regarding the news of the Senate confirmation, Mueller said, "I'm still pinching myself. I continue to be honored by the support I've received from the president, (U.S.) Sen. (Barbara) Boxer, and now from the Senate."

Mueller has served on the Eastern District of California as a magistrate judge since 2003. Prior to that, she worked as a private practice lawyer with Orrick, Herrington & Sutliffe LLP and on then on her own. She was also a member of the Sacramento City Council from 1987 to 1992.[1]
