Maine Codification of State Constitution, Proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 1 (1950)
The Maine Codification of State Constitution, also known as Proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 1, was on the September 11, 1950 ballot in Maine as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved.[1][2] The measure provided for the codification of the state constitution. The chief justice of the Maine Supreme Court was to arrange the constitution into articles, parts and sections which would then be approved by the Legislature.[3] This repealed and replaced Section 3 of Article X of the Maine Constitution.[4]
Aftermath
In 1967, another legislatively referred constitutional amendment made the schedule for the recodification of the Maine Constitution every 10 years starting in 1973. The 1950 measure had authorized it whenever a new revision of the public laws of the state was authorized.[2][5]
