|
The Maine Kennebec Bridge Bond Issue Referendum, also known as Amendment No. 1, was on the September 14, 1925 ballot in Maine as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved. The measure authorized the issuing of bonds to fund the building of a bridge across the Kennebec River between the city of Bath and the town of Woolwich.[1][2] This amended Section 17 of Article IX of the Maine Constitution.[3]
Aftermath
On September 12, 1955, $1,110,000 bonded indebtedness remained on the Kennebec Bridge.[4] On October 12, 1959, the debt was $925,000.[5]
In 1972, a legislatively referred bond question was voted upon that would have issued $4 million in bonds for the construction of a toll bridge across the Kennebec River between Waterville and Winslow, but the measure was defeated.[6]
