|
The Maine Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Bond Issue, also known as Referendum Question No. 4, was on the November 5, 1968 ballot in Maine as a legislatively referred bond question, where it was approved.[1] The measure issued up to $4.5 million in bonds for the construction of a bridge across the Androscoggin River between the cities of Auburn and Lewiston. This was the third time such an measure had been put to voters, with the prior two being defeated.[2]
Background
The first attempt to fund a bridge in this location was in 1951, when a legislatively referred bond question asked voters to approve $3 million in bonds for the construction of a toll bridge there. A second attempt was made in 1967, which asked for $4.5 million for a bridge, though no longer specified as a toll bridge.
