This measure was not put on an election ballot |
The Maine Medical Marijuana Question did not appear on the November 8, 2011 ballot in the state of Maine as an indirect initiated state statute. The initiative's proponents were collecting signatures in order to gain ballot access. The proposal would have allowed for the use of medical marijuana in the state.[1]
Path to the ballot
In order to place the measure on the 2011 ballot a minimum of 58,054 valid signatures were required by January 20, 2011. If the required amount of signatures had been verified, the measure would have gone to the state legislature for review. If legislators chose not to vote to adopt a similar law, it would have been sent to the November 2011 ballot. According to the Maine Secretary of State, however, supporters did not file any signatures by the deadline.
