Maine Municipal Debt Limit Increase, Proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 1 (1954)
The Maine Municipal Debt Limit Increase Referendum, also known as Proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 1, was on the September 13, 1954 ballot in Maine as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved. The measure raised the limit on municipal indebtedness from five percent to seven and a half percent.[1][2] The measure became the 76th amendment to the Maine Constitution, repealing and replacing Section 15 of Article IX of the Maine Constitution.[3]
