Maine Representative arrested, moved to psychiatric facility

AUGUSTA, Maine: As of Monday, Maine state Rep. Frederick Wintle (R) has been placed in a psychiatric hospital after an examination following his arrest last weekend. Wintle allegedly pointed a loaded gun at a man outside a Dunkin' Doughnuts in Waterville, Maine. The mental health examination was initiated by law enforcement officials.[1]
After his arrest, Wintle was charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, a felony. His bail was set at $3,500. Wintle's bail forbids him from returning to the State House without first receiving permission from House Speaker Robert Nutting (R).[1]
Wintle was first elected on November 2, 2010, defeating Michael Sawtelle in the general election. Wintle replaced Douglas Thomas (R), who won election to the State Senate.
